Leadership vs Management. Where do you stand?

Leadership vs Management. Where do you stand?

As a founder CEO or simply a human being, you wear many hats, but there's one distinction that often gets blurred: leadership vs. management. And this is something I want you to look at today.

Leaders are different than managers. So, here’s what I want you to consider: Are you managing or leading? Look at the different areas of your life—not just at work, but also in your family, relationships, and even your finances and well being. Where do you find yourself managing things rather than leading?

The job of a leader is to keep the vision alive. As leaders, we’re constantly recreating and presenting that vision—not just for ourselves, but for our teams as well. This means you need to be connected not only your vision but the vision of your team (or family) members. Have you had that conversation with them? Do you even know what their vision is? If not, it’s time to find out. Otherwise, people will just feel like they’re working a job or getting through the week, and you may face higher turnover, stress between people or struggle to introduce new ways of thinking or systems.

Now, don't get me wrong, managers are important too. They handle the accountability, timelines, and the day-to-day operations. But there's a clear distinction between managing and leading. Leaders bring the vision to life and keep it burning. They elicit that vision from their team members, whereas managers focus on getting things done and ensuring commitments are met.

The truth is, this dynamic shows up in every area of life. Are you leading the vision for your family, or simply managing daily routines? Are you taking charge of your financial future, or are you just managing monthly budgets? These are all critical places to explore the leader vs. manager distinction.

So, I ask you: Where are you currently standing? Are you leaning more into leadership or management? I’d love to hear where you feel you excel as a leader and where you might find yourself managing.
