Leadership Training Matters! - Are Your Student and Professional Leaders Prepared to Lead?

Later this week, I am preparing to deliver a keynote presentation to hundreds of student leaders from across the country at the 2022 Student Leadership Experience at Norkfolk State University held by my good friend, Jarrod Benjamin.
As I prepare for this transformational keynote presentation, not only do I believe that more students and professionals need to attend leadership conferences held throughout our communities, nation, and world, but based on the unique challenges that exist today, without proper leadership training, it will be very difficult for leaders to thrive and succeed.
In essence, as I pondered upon the challenges that many students and professionals who serve as leaders must face today, it became clear to me that in order for leaders to navigate the impact of the pandemic, the heightened racial tension, inflation, retention, lack of engagement, trauma, and many other challenges within our community and nation, they must participate in various leadership development opportunities that will empower them with the skills needed to thrive and succeed.
For example, based on my research around retention, engagement, and the development of more committed culturally diverse leaders of the emerging generation, I discovered that students and professionals who serve as leaders and desire to witness growth in these areas must learn about the different components of transformational leadership, inclusive leadership, as well as the servant leadership model.
I have discovered in my research that these styles of leadership not only have a direct impact on retention, engagement, and the development of more committed culturally diverse leaders of the emerging generation, but to fully experience the benefits of these leadership styles, student and professionals that serve as leaders must develop the characteristics of these approaches through various trainings, retreats, conferences, and events.

Consequently, this is why I strongly believe in the words of Vince Lombardi so much when he says, “Leaders are not born, they are made”, because effective leaders who produce positive outcomes are able to accomplish success due to the leadership training and development that they have received and experienced.
Thankfully, hundreds of student leaders that are hearing me speak later this week will be empowered with a set of foundational leadership characteristics from the transformational style of leadership that I believe will enhance their effectiveness as leaders within their community, nation, and world.
As you continue to evolve and develop future student or professional leaders, I hope this message inspires and motivates you to keep doing the important work around leadership.?
Also, if needed, I encourage you to consider having me share one of my leadership programs with your campus community/organization or have some of your students attend our 2022 Circle of Change Leadership Experience this December in Los Angeles, California.
