Leadership through technology: reaping the benefits of digitalization in mobility
Rail is moving into a new era. Digitalization is driving this future with innovative solutions to meet the industry’s rapidly evolving needs, by optimizing lifecycle costs, maximizing system availability and helping put more trains on existing infrastructure, just to name a few. See how Siemens Mobility is setting new digital solutions for rail into motion, such as Railigent X and Mobility Software Suite X, empowered in part by Siemens Xcelerator*.
One of the major hurdles of digitalization in general is to connect rail systems and make them digitally interoperable. Historically, rail systems have become a complex patchwork of operators and freight services that manage a wide variety of rolling stock, software, hardware, signaling, customers and rail information on every journey.
That is why we are aiming to make more solutions centrally accessible to our customers and to optimize the connection between hardware and software. The goal is to bring the mobility ecosystem together, enabling different stakeholders and providers to interconnect and exchange available data via APIs. We are also committed to the flexibility of a modular software design and the option of migrating almost fully to the cloud, while upholding the highest levels of cybersecurity.
Such an interoperable and interconnected ecosystem will help accelerate digitalization across the industry, while also creating valuable, real-world benefits for both operators and users.?
Digital solutions to help our customers get the most out of their assets
In particular, we are focusing on lowering lifecycle costs, maximizing system availability, improving network capacity and providing new ways to optimize the utilization of assets. Railigent X and Mobility Software Suite X are two of our most advanced digital suites which some of our customers are already putting to use, and reaping the benefits of our ecosystem approach.?

Railigent X brings new levels of efficiency to networks by connecting asset data in intelligent software with IoT- and AI-based solutions. It thereby enables predictive maintenance of trains and minimizes unplanned downtime. Connected digital services like remote configuration and remote software update also save time and costs in daily operations. Other connected services are helping move networks to 100% system availability. Learn more about Railigent X here or watch our video here.
Mobility Software Suite X features “S3 Passenger” by Sqills, the leading global inventory, reservation, and ticketing system for public transport. This fully scalable, modular web-based platform can integrate inventories from different operators into one booking process – boosting ticket sales and improving overall customer satisfaction. Ultimately the implementation of S3 Passenger results in increased revenue. For example, Eurostar has leveraged this solution to generate substantial cost savings, increase the flexibility of data management, and improve its disruption management. All this while ensuring that passengers can receive real-time booking messages and positioning Eurostar tickets alongside airline tickets in airline distribution systems. This is the primary tool for travel agents.?As part of Siemens Xcelerator, S3 Passenger delivers a highly flexible, constantly evolving system that helps operators work across multiple distribution channels. *Siemens Xcelerator is an open digital business platform being rolled out across multiple industries at Siemens. For Siemens Mobility specifically, it helps us connect the different sub-systems in rail infrastructures with the goal of creating an interoperable and interconnected ecosystem for everyone. By enabling open interfaces, we aim to facilitate continuous data exchange between the different sub-systems of the railway network. Learn more about Siemens Xcelerator.
