Leadership through the Dignified and the Efficient

I began watching the Netflix show The Crown this weekend and got through a good few episodes.

There is one episode where young Princess Elizebeth gets her lessons on the constitution at Eton. This lesson was about #leadership

I shall attempt my best to explain it here.

The 2 sides of the leadership coin are DIGNIFIED and EFFICIENT.

The efficient must ensure that the execution of tasks, activities, and jobs go smoothly.

Whereas the dignified's responsibility is to preserve the system of the efficient by being above it all, a symbol of dignity and integrity.

This would be great to apply to modern day-to-day leadership roles as well.

A leader, in any organization, must function with dignity and integrity, to be the embodiment of the culture (and ethics) that needs to be maintained within the company. Through this symbol, the efficient and all others would take inspiration and work to achieve higher, better goals through better means, thus, carrying the entire system forth.

This may be true for the highest of leaders. But what about the ones in between, the ones who manage teams under them, and they, in turn, manage teams?

My theory for a leader who manages a team and is also answerable to his/her senior.

We are multi-faceted as human beings and can perform different roles as per different situations.

To the team, the leader will have to show dignity and integrity in leading the team to complete tasks, so the team can get inspired by the team leader. When the team succeeds, the leader will show the best of efficiency to his/her leaders who in turn have inspired by being dignified.

This system would work only if the two groups, the Dignified and the Efficient, trust one another.

TRUST is the key for this to work.

Any organization is a well-oiled machine. The cogs and gears are the people who work. And the oil that enables the smooth running of the machine is the culture.

Wouldn’t it be better to have a trusting culture with a strong sense of integrity, morality, and responsibility? Wouldn’t it be better to have an institution that inspires better quality outcomes?

What are your thoughts on this?
