Leadership - It starts with forming a rooted relationship.
I have a passion for leadership and the necessary steps that need to be taken in order for a sports team, department or business to reach that next level. Don't get me wrong, I am no expert and still have A LOT to learn but couldn't help but smile after watching the Packer's locker room after their 10-3 victory over the Chicago Thursday night. (Video below)
Let's rewind... Matt LaFleur was named the Packer's head coach in January in a rather quick process given the fact that he only had one interview. One of the main criticisms LaFleur received was whether or not he has the ability to lead a team and whether or not he could get all 53 players "buy in." In his first press conference as head coach it was obvious LaFleur was nervous but behind the nerves one of the praises from a former peer was that Coach LaFleur has what it takes to get the job done.
When you talk about Matt, any time you’re looking for a great leader of men, I think he embodies a couple of the traits and characteristics that are definitely consistent with great leaders,” McVay said. “And one of the things he does such a great job of, that we try to do here, is he’s such a great human being that he develops relationships with people first and foremost. - Sean McVay, Head Coach - Los Angeles Rams
So why did I smile? I smiled because it appears that the locker room has his full attention and respect. LaFleur did his homework on the team and stuck true to what he believes in, if you want the best out of your team or organization it's forming that relationship and telling the person across from you "I'm all in if you're all in." I have to be honest, I couldn't help but feel ecstatic after seeing the video of the team celebrating after the BIG win. I hope this is a preview for what will be something great for the Green Bay Packers in the Matt LaFleur era.
What are your thoughts on leadership? What are great traits needed in a leader in order to have other be all in?
