Leadership is About Shaping Minds, Not Just Markets

Most networking platforms today are a moving ticker of likes, comments, and followers. While these activities might momentarily stroke our vanity, they often leave us longing for something deeper - genuine insights, meaningful connections, and substantial conversations. This is a domain of true leaders, those who elevate these platforms with their experience, expertise and willingness to share learnings gathered over a lifetime.?
Two things happened in the past month that signify effective leadership at play. First, the G20 summit where India demonstrated unrivaled statesmanship and took lead in driving a common global agenda. Beyond the glitz, glamor and optics, India communicated its firm stance on peace, sustainability and dialog-based resolution of contentious issues. It was a pivot of sorts in assertion of India as a country leading from the front, a message that rang loud among gathered countries as well as internal audience.??
Second, political discussions aside when 27-year-old Women’s Reservation Bill got the nod of Parliament, it sent out the message of affirmative change. It told women of the country that their time is coming to take center stage, that they become champions of just not their constituencies and issues of women but be equally vociferous in setting political, social and economic agenda for the country. The story is yet to play out fully, but a beginning is made. And, sometimes the message is equally if not more important than the act alone. And, when the message is in focus, communication cannot be ambiguous. ?
Are we, as marketers and communicators, attuned to this shift in focus? Are we leveraging our platforms and influence, to cultivate the fundamental elements of leadership, connection, and meaningful dialogue???
