Leadership Senses - Chapter 3: Vision
The Catch-22 of having an aerial look at things, is that you can't be in the midst of the battle...or so you might think.
Probably the most important sense of leadership is to be able to cast vision. What we need to do however, is to have a well balanced understanding of the bigger picture (the aerial view), as well as what the heat of the battle is all about. In theory, this balancing act seems quite simple, but to mix it in with all the other senses and taking into account how the receivers of the message will interpret it...the whole vision 'thing' can feel daunting.
The way one individual advances their pawns and places their knights could be in contrast with how you see the game play out and sacrificing a piece might seem totally ludicrous to another. Despite these factors making it difficult, we as leaders must realize that we are in a position of authority for exactly this purpose, to communicate a vision forward.
To cast vision then, we need to sit down and spend time on the direction we need to go in, in the following season. Make a commitment to analyze key places your team should go, goals they need to pursue and where you would want to see yourself and them in a year's time.
Once we have explored and examined all we needed, taking this to our team should be the 'easy' part, especially if they know you are acting in their best interest as well as that of the organization...but more on feeling next time.

Excellent leaders will have the knack of casting the vision clearly from above, communicate it well, and then be on the frontlines when the time comes to execute. Go and be great!.
