Being a leader is a great privilege. To be in position to influence and inspire others to follow you, to work for you, to learn from you, and to try to emulate you, is such a high honor. At the same time, you get your inspiration and motivation from them; you try to be the best leader you can be so you could continue to inspire and serve your team. It's a necessary and productive partnership.
Many of these great leaders are found throughout each business community. They play important roles in all job functions and industries, and in companies of all shapes and sizes. Through my conversations with various leaders, I've learned that they are all eager to share their knowledge and experience. From this, I was inspired to put together a program called Inspiring Aspiring Leaders, which will be rolled out in the DFW area in 2020.
What is Inspiring Aspiring Leaders?
Inspiring Aspiring Leaders is a series of seminars that promote the growth and advancement of new leaders. The objective of this free program is to borrow the knowledge and wisdom from experienced leaders and lend them to young and/or new aspiring leaders. The idea is very simple, and consists of two key elements; 1: Invite experienced leaders to speak to audiences of aspiring leaders in their industries; 2: Encourage the same leaders to continue to share their wisdom by volunteering as mentors to the aspiring leaders. The goal is to inspire and motivate young leaders to become great leaders, themselves.
Some of the targeted groups include leaders from:
- Production/warehouse floors
- Call centers
- Retail teams
- IT development
- HR and Recruitment
- Customer service teams
- Hospitality
- Construction
- Sales and business development
While the idea sounds ambitious, it really is not. The knowledge and wisdom are already there, and the next generation of leaders are eager to gain that knowledge. It’s just a matter of putting everybody in the same room.
What’s it going to take to get everybody in the same room?
The success of this program will come down to the concerted efforts of everyone involved. And this is where the DFW business community can provide huge support.
We’ll mainly need four things to make this happen:
Volunteer Speakers
This program starts with the speakers; they help build the agenda, and create the vision and direction for each of the individual seminars. Speakers are passionate about their philosophies, and they have had much success in leading various teams in their careers. Speakers are also strong communicators, who know what their messages are, and are prepared to deliver them.
Audience Members
This is the other key component to this project. Audience members are both new and experienced leaders who are looking for inspirations from those whom they aspire to become.
Venue
We’ll need companies and businesses to offer their space for us to use. Any cafeteria, meeting room, large conference room, church, plant floor, front lobby, or event areas that can accommodate up to 50 - 70 people would work.
Sponsors
We could also use some generous donations to make these events more comfortable and enjoyable for all. Food and beverages are always welcomed!
Sponsors will have an opportunity to speak and promote their products/services to our audience.
