When leaders fail to prioritize self-care, they risk experiencing a range of detrimental outcomes. Their stress levels tend to increase, leading to exhaustion and burnout. As a result, their emotional well-being may suffer, causing them to become irritable and emotionally reactive. This hinders their ability to empathize with and support their team members effectively. Moreover, the lack of self-care can diminish a leader's presence and engagement, preventing them from being fully attentive and connected in their interactions. This, in turn, can lead to missed opportunities to address the needs of their direct reports.

By practicing self-care, leaders can enhance their emotional well-being, build resilience, and develop the capacity for empathy. This, in turn, enables them to foster stronger connections, trust, and support with their direct reports, ultimately leading to a more positive and empathetic work environment.
