March the 8th is International Women's Day. I'm reminded how women have been fighting the status quo for MUCH! and FAR! Too Long! The recent U.S. election has finally resulted in the first woman assuming the vice presidency of the arguably most powerful country in the world. Admittedly, women are and have been leaders of other countries; England, New Zealand, and Finland, to name only a few. However, it is still maddening that more often than not, women face systematically more challenges to attain positions of leadership in the workforce compared to men. It is utter nonsense, but it is real, and it can't be ignored.
I count myself incredibly lucky to have worked under the supervision, management, mentorship and leadership of great women. Without understating the challenges that women face in the workforce, having a woman as my boss has not been the exception, as some might expect; it has been and continues to be my norm throughout my career, even to this day at Side Door. I have been and still am fortunate to learn from the best. Women continue to battle the status quo in the workspace and elsewhere, and by doing so, are making the world a better place.
