My team experienced a loss in staffing recently. I won't lie. It was tough. It's been a challenge. However, I reflected on my ability to keep going despite the adversity of the situation. I searched for the correct quote or phrase to describe my current focus or energy.?
Denis Waitley, the author of "The Psychology of Winning," has a quote that resonates with me well. He says, "Don't dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energies on moving forward toward finding the answer."
As I look back over the years, that is what I do. There will be time to ponder and reflect on improvements, mourn or celebrate the loss, learn from the challenges, and possibly implement change. All of those things good leaders will ensure. But moving forward takes strength of character, will, determination, and tenacity at times and the motivation to forge a path ahead.?
It is an opportunity to create something new. To learn something new! To challenge yourself or even overcome fears. Find and embrace recent successes and feel accomplished anew. That is what I have to do. That is what I've been doing. Not always with a smile…I am human, after all. And to keep this authentic, I'll even go so far as to admit that it's uncomfortable, scary at times, and for me, isolating some days.
But I talk about it aloud with colleagues and confidants. I consolidate and prioritize tasks. I celebrate minor victories and milestones, and of course, I document them. Chronicling your accomplishments and achievements is vital.
So now it's YOUR TURN. Share with me and the world your "leadership reflections" on moving forward …moving on past adversity. I welcome the discourse! joy robinson Mae Whiteside Williams, PE Tia Butler Keith Evans
