Leadership Reflection: Fresh Start

We are into the new year of 2024 and for many of you it is time for a Fresh Start. This is a time that can be very motivating and exciting. Your energy can overcome procrastination and achieve your goals. This is significant as it will help you make positive change in your career, company, and/or life.?

Hardik Dewra wrote a nice blog on this topic which I have excerpted below and modified adding some of my own thoughts.

What is the Fresh Start Effect – It is a psychological phenomenon that refers to the increased motivation and renewed energy that can be harnessed to improve our life and help us achieve goals.? In order to take full advantage of this Fresh Start it is important that you do the following.?

• Set specific and realistic goals – Setting specific and realistic goals helps to focus motivation and increase the chance of success.? ?
• Create a plan of action – Once your specific and realistic goals have been set, it is important to create a plan of action to achieve them. This can include setting deadlines, creating a schedule, and identify potential obstacles that will need be dealt with and overcome.? ?
• Implement your Fresh Start in daily life – To make the most of the Fresh Start Effect, it is important to implement small daily habits and micro-resolutions that align with your goals. For example, if your goal is to bring more fitness into your life, committing to a daily walk or workout to help move this forward.? ?
• Overcome obstacles and setbacks – it is important to be prepared for the obstacles and setbacks that may arise on the way to achieving your goals. A technique that I have found helpful is that when challenges arise to ask yourself the following questions:??What is great or could be great about this???What is not yet perfect??What am I willing to do to make the way I want it??What am I not willing to do??How can I have fun with this?? ?
• Keep track of progress and celebrate achievements – Keeping track of your progress and celebrating achievements will help you stay motivated and make further positive change in your life.? ?
