Leadership Qualities Enhance Sales

Recently, a young (she’s far from old) high school friend of mine, Terri LoGiudice posted about leadership and went on to praise her manager at the job she loves.? The post was describing seven signs of a great leader.? The myriad qualities included things I feel are essential for success in sales as well.

Salespeople are natural born leaders, influencers and problem solvers. To be successful it would be go to:

  • Exemplative behavior
  • Sensitivity to other’s needs
  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Open Mindedness to ideas and change

Exemplative Behavior is necessary to show not tell people who you really are.? If you are in the health field, your lifestyle should fit what you are promoting.? Basically, you should practice what you preach both in and out of your profession.? In the world of social media, there are no secrets and people will call you out.

Sensitivity to others' needs is multifaceted.? Be mindful of people’s time and space.? Don’t suffocate them and be persistent at the same time.? Keep your antennae up as to when their brains are sated and also when it’s time for them to move on.? It’s a delicate balance and dance between the professional and clients.

Demonstrate compassion when interrupting a person’s day, life and business.? Very fine lines can be overstepped.? What someone is dealing with isn’t always apparent and sometimes we aren’t truly listening.? There are so many challenges that can create obstacles to any business agreement/process.? Keep an ear out for signals on problems outside of what your focus is.? Congratulate, sympathize, listen, let the problem be voiced before moving forward.

Open Mindedness to ideas and change even if your role has been the same for years, customer retention has everything to do with innovation and flexibility.? Keep your mind’s eye on the pulse of the goals you are helping your clients achieve.? It’s their goals, their dreams, you are supporting, not yours.

True leadership is selfless and always placing others or the dream/focus first.? It’s a very rewarding feeling when that muscle is strong and you see other’s success.? If you can build these qualities as a salesperson, you will have a very sustainable and successful reputation.
