Leadership the MAHI way!

The Golden Boy of Indian cricket got out at zero. Captain Cool is the walking taking example of detached attachment. CSK meant Dhoni & vice versa. They were not winners of any subtitles. No one thought that the title will be theirs in style! Every team member dedicated his performance to Thala Dhoni!

A humble start, an accidental entry into a game that eventually is synonymous with his name. His journey was similar to CSK's journey this season. Not a prodigy who was identified & nurtured by a coach, MSD's journey to the team was of hits & misses. The misses grounded him & he understood the value of what he received. In true Karma Yogi style, he always said the focus on the controllable made him the impactful Captain Cool! In a game that is religion in India, he blurred all divides & brought HOPE into the game which unites the country. In a game where everyone emotionally connect he became that unifying emotion. In a league where there are loyalists, he brought the country praying together, so his team reaches the final. In a league where states are divided, he made sure the love of his fans crossed state borders & every ground became his home ground. He became the anthem, he became the game. Yet he gave so many leadership lessons throughout his entire career.

Magical Presence: Most of the milestones of Indian cricket saw Dhoni on the non-striker end. Be it Yuvi's 6 sixes, Raina's first century in T-20, or Sachin & Rohit Sharma's Double century were all with Dhoni at the other end. He knew how to allow his team members to shine & ably support them. He was also one the team could depend on when they needed a fight or quick runs. His mere presence spelled hope for the fans & his calmness the needed support especially when anxious at a milestone moment. Jadeja dedicated his performance!

Authentic: He always is honest & states facts as they should be. I remember in one of the interviews how he was asked about the way he flicked his bat in the winning shot in the world cup. An unforgettable moment for us fans. For him it was instinctive. He is so candid when he describes how endorsers want to use it.

Humble: As a leader he gives the right people the due credit & steps back. He realises that the victory is because of the team & therefore steps back during victory moments. In the world cup win he allowed the spotlight on Sachin for whom it was so important. Likewise in the 5th win of the IPL.

Inspirational: His demeanor on & off the field is so praiseworthy that he is admired by all young & old in the game & the one retired too. There is so much for youngsters to learn from him that if his leadership styles are followed, we will have so many inspirational ones all around. When the legend Sunil Gavaskar was asked about the unforgettable moments that he wishes would be his last moments......watch what he had to say, speaks about him & the respect MAHI has earned!
