Leadership is not just about managing a team or an organisation, it is about being able to influence and inspire people to achieve a common goal. And sometimes, the best lessons on leadership can come from the most unexpected sources.
In this case, we can learn some valuable leadership lessons from a 7-year-old girl who wanted a bike and was determined to get it.
Let's explore the lessons we can learn from her and how we can apply them to our own leadership journeys.
Lesson 1: Persistence Pays Off
The first lesson we can learn from the young girl is that persistence pays off.
She knew what she wanted and was determined to get it, even though her father kept refusing.
Instead of giving up, she kept trying and offered to do some chores in return for a bike. She understood that sometimes, you have to work hard to achieve your goals and that giving up is not an option.
As leaders, we can apply this lesson by being persistent in our goals and objectives.
We should not give up easily when faced with obstacles or challenges.
Instead, we should keep trying and find creative solutions to overcome them.
We should also encourage our team members to be persistent in their work and provide them with the necessary support and resources to achieve their goals.
Lesson 2: Visualise Your Goals
The young girl had a poster of a nice bike in her room. This shows that she had a clear vision of what she wanted and was able to visualise it.
Visualisation is a powerful tool that can help us achieve our goals. When we can see our goals clearly in our minds, we are more motivated to work towards them.
As leaders, we can apply this lesson by encouraging our team members to visualise their goals and objectives.
We can also use visualisation techniques to help us achieve our own goals.
For example, we can create vision boards or use affirmations to help us stay focused on our goals.
Lesson 3: Timing is Everything
The young girl looked for moments when her father was in a good mood and tuned to his thinking.
This shows that she understood the importance of timing and knew when to approach her father.
Timing is everything in leadership. Knowing when to approach someone and how to approach them can make all the difference in achieving our goals.

We should also be mindful of the timing of our communication with our team members and stakeholders.
For example, we should know when to give feedback or when to have important conversations with our team members.
Lesson 4: Be Resilient
The young girl faced rejection from her father multiple times, but she did not let it discourage her.
She remained resilient and kept trying. Resilience is an important trait for leaders to have. It allows us to bounce back from setbacks and continue to move forward.
As leaders, we can apply this lesson by being resilient in the face of challenges and setbacks.
We should also encourage our team members to be resilient and provide them with the necessary support to overcome obstacles.
Lesson 5: Be Creative
The young girl offered to do some chores in return for a bike. This shows that she was creative in finding a solution to her problem.
Creativity is an important skill for leaders to have. It allows us to find innovative solutions to problems and think outside the box.
As leaders, we can apply this lesson by encouraging creativity in our team members.
We should also be open to new ideas and approaches and not be afraid to take risks.
In conclusion, we can learn some valuable leadership lessons from a 7 year old girl who wanted a bike and was determined to get it.
We can apply these lessons by being persistent in our goals, visualizing our objectives, being aware of timing, being resilient in the face of challenges, and being creative in finding solutions.
As leaders, we should always be open to learning from different sources and be willing to apply these lessons to our own leadership journeys.

1 年Hell yes! Leadership can be observed in many children or teen-agers. I believe it is an innate quality. And it can be developed further of course. If one was to go back in time and observe the ‘child era’ of a current leader, I am sure that we would find the key ingredients of leadership in the child. Great example you give.

1 年I'm sure many of us can relate to this Vijay and it demonstrates that leadership starts at a young age! I have been worn down by the persistent efforts of my children when they were younger, but I know persistence pays off and it is an invaluable trait to retain throughout life.
