Leadership Lens: Career Advice From Women Executives
Welcome back to The Leadership Lens. This edition features insights from our Career Advice video series and advice from women executives on changing workplace demographics.
Career Advice: Renee Barber
Senior Business Writer Linda Bell sat down with 美敦力 's Renee Barber to discuss the sponsorship gap and the importance of learning and development in this week's installment of our Career Advice video series.
Barber was recently promoted to the Senior Director role at Medtronic. She said her love for learning took her on a career journey that wasn't necessarily planned.
"The idea of being open to roles that were going to teach me and stretch me gave me the ability to jump into spaces that took me into global roles."
Taking roles in smaller cities early on led her to later work with teams in Europe and China.

Women Executives' Advice on Changing Up Workplace Demographics
A Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) report shows that in 2021, 86% of Fortune 500 CEOs were white men, indicating a lack of diversity at the top. While progress has been made, much work still needs to be done to increase representation of women and people of color in executive leadership roles.
Two Black women are CEOs of Fortune 500 companies and are also on our 2022 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list. Those women are Thasunda Brown Duckett , CEO of TIAA (No. 8?on the 2022 Top 50 list) and Roz Brewer , CEO of Walgreens (No. 40?on the list).?
In our Women's History Month Meeting in a Box, we highlighted "Empowering Quotes From 10 Influential Women," one of which was Brewer.
“You can and should set your own limits and clearly articulate them. This takes courage, but it is also liberating and empowering, and often earns you new respect.”
DiversityInc Best Practices subscribers can download the entire Meeting in a Box to consider the meaning of the quotes and discuss them with your family, friends and colleagues. This can also continue your employees’ cultural competence education, open conversations about identity and gender equality and spotlight women’s accomplishments.
