Leadership is not just a skill. It’s a mindset.

Leadership is not just a skill. It’s a mindset.

Leadership is not just a skill. It’s a mindset. Having the mindset that whatever comes, I can handle it; I can lead it, and I will figure out what to do will open doors that you didn’t even know existed.?Good leadership requires continuously looking at yourself as both the painting and the painter and making continuous improvements. While a leader’s job is to think about others and what is needed, to create direction, prepare the way and equip others to take the journey, sometimes, even the best leaders can find themselves stuck or resistant to what is in front of them. That is when it’s time to take the initiative and start upskilling.

?Is the shifting landscape impacting you, your leadership and/or your company? If so, consider taking our new class, but before you do, let me give you a little coaching homework challenge. Take a few minutes to do some self-reflection. Zero in on areas where you are struggling to embrace a new direction. Considering your own areas of resistance, think through how you can reframe your situation so that you can not only accept change but lead it.

?Reframing is a tool I often use with clients. For example, if I have a coachee who gets nervous about speaking to a large group, I ask them to think of the audience as guests in his or her home. Thinking of themselves as the host helps that person get comfortable. It’s a re-frame of the situation. So, give it a try, you may be surprised to find that staying mentally prepared along with learning new skills such as reframing can bring some unexpected wins not only for those you lead but also for you as a leader. Of course, it would be nice, if we learned a set of leadership skills only once and we never needed to revisit that learning again, but just like people, leadership is dynamic. It is always changing, shifting with the workforce and marketplace landscape shifts. Being a great leader means continuously working to maintain, hone, enhance and develop leadership skills.

?Being a leader that today’s workforce wants to work for demands a giving of self: a willingness to admit weaknesses and a willingness to learn, change and grow. Although it’s challenging, it’s worth it. Leaders who give of themselves get it all back, because they experience an opportunity to touch others in a very personal and positive sense. It is a gratifying way to reach others: to guide them, to help them at work and, sometimes, even at home—ultimately affecting people’s lives for the positive. Don’t wait.?Advance your leadership skills today.

What you have is what you can give. It is necessary to be highly mindful of what we become because knowingly or unknowingly we impact a lot of lives.

As a human being, we should constantly evaluate our actions and try to be a leader of our own self. I feel this is the first step towards leading others. If a leader can inculcate qualities of compassion, understanding, empathy, patience, and a positive attitude, his job becomes very easy.
