Leadership is a journey

Kia Ora . I was asked recently to share my leadership journey. When I was nominated to be part of the Future Auckland Leaders program offered by the Committee for Auckland in 2007 by Watercare , the question that I had in my mind was ; why me out of a possible 350 staff. Someone had recognised , something in me, that was worthy for them to consider that I will become a future Auckland Leader. In the 10 years that have followed since that nomination I have taken on the leadership journey by serving the people of various organisations in various roles, all on a voluntary basis. Some of these organisations have had me as their CEO, Strategic Advisor, Secretary, Event Organiser, & Teacher. I hold these opportunities to serve very close to my heart, for it is a privilege to be of use even in a small way to the wider good. This journey still continues, recently as the Chair of the Working Group on Growth Leadership for CfA. Some exciting times , for I feel the program has delivered the future leaders for a better Auckland. This has been the experience of many individuals who have also taken the journey. When you step into "what can I do for others" is a first step that you have begun in your leadership journey.
