There is not much debate on the idea that honesty is a virtue. It exemplifies an admirable quality of character. Being honest and having integrity cultivates trust, which in turn helps to cultivate healthy relationships, which in turn helps to develop organisations and communities. However, these virtues appear rare in today's work culture as team members would rather tell the best lies than the worst truth.?

In this episode of the Everyday Leadership Podcast, I am joined by Suki Fuller . Suki has won several awards for her work as a competitive strategy advisor, data storyteller, and intelligence expert. She has experience working in various fields, including academia, national security, law enforcement, and private corporations, and has travelled extensively.

We discussed the importance of adding value to the lives of people around you, encouraging open dialogue by not stifling people's ability to express themselves, the drawbacks of being overly direct, seeing and evaluating people beyond their titles, positions, or societal status and many more.

“I'm not going to change who I am to fit an environment… I may not just laugh and want to hug everybody, but trust me, if you fall and I'm in the room, and I think it's funny and you are some titled person, I am going to laugh just like if you fell and you were that three-year-old kid, and it was funny.”

“Nobody else was taking the time to read the manuals. So… I was always the point person for something that was either technically phasing or just a little bit more complicated than the average person wanted to know about. And when you're in that position, you can be a little bit of a smart ass because you can pretty much say some stuff that most people would not get away with. But because you know more than many people, you get away with it.”

“We all do a few things the same, and maybe it might not be exactly the same but we're born, we live, and while we are alive, we all have to excrete. And maybe you don’t go to the bathroom the same way, but we all have to excrete the things out of our bodies that we don’t need anymore… The other thing we all have in common, we die… That's the way I look at humans.”

“When you're the top guy, people will always placate you. They're not going to always question when you do something. They're going to say, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah. That's really great’ even if they think it's rubbish.”

“The worst thing in the world is people that are just content to be. Then what is your purpose? Everybody should have a purpose. There should be a purpose to want something… just being is just existing. And existing isn’t being alive.”
