In todays Leadership Lab (LL) we explored the differences between leaders who are "Me" focused as compared to those that are "We" centered. These leadership differences in most cases reflected polar opposites and as a result the people culture, team performance and in many cases customer satisfaction also mirrored similar outcomes.
While organizations are increasing aware of these behaviors creating the behavioral shift at times can be a challenge. The logic around WE centered leadership is robust and studies have shown that leaders who shift towards this leadership style deliver improved performances across a range of people and business measures.
The Leadership Lab participants identified that when trying to make this transition alone, leaders tend to bounce between the Me and We styles (MIND THE GAP) and this results in personal frustration and a confused team. This erratic behavior can then lead to the perception that the leader is not committed to successfully nurturing their business. A structured approach to creating the simple, yet essential changes is what creates success. By measuring and observing the agreed changes and by gathering business partner inputs we can help guide you to a successful outcome.
Positive measurable change can be achieved when an organization and it leaders commit to a sustained push towards a We centered leadership group. In the diagram above, it reflects the need for the leader (YOU) to have the courage required and to take the step towards long-term success and improved outcomes.
The Leadership Lab members agreed today to focus on one or two "We" centered behaviors, and committed to executing these with our team and business partners. These behaviors have been agreed and will be measured to determine success and areas for improvement.
