From GW's Executive Management Workbench....
Function of High-Growth, Leadership:
The utilization of motivational and logical competencies to enlist the aid and support of others in accomplishing an objective.
A leader is one who leads or guides others in accomplishing the mission and a leader is not necessarily a "leadership manager," nor has to be one to be a good leader.
Whereas a leadership manager must be a leader, and by definition, must master the 75 competencies of the six (6) functions of high-growth management - of which leadership is a critical function.
There is no evidence that "training" in leadership tenets, or soft or hard skill competencies, creates a leader. It merely allows an individual to understand the traits of being a leader. It still takes the individual to stand up and be counted when others remain seated.
This is why "mentoring" is so important in developing a solid management depth within your company, not coaching or training. The experience and expertise of a leadership manager in working and mentoring a future department manager is worth a thousand coaches.
Which is why I wanted to announce the three areas I am developing leadership-manager programs with hard-skill competencies: They are, 1)Executive Leadership Programs; 2)Department Leadership Programs, and 3)Potential Leadership Programs.
