Focusing on the Goal Vs. Focusing on Systems

Consider a game of golf; when players begin to play, their goal is one, the goal is clear - To finish with the best score!

If the player spends more time looking at the score sheet instead of focusing on the techniques and applying them accordingly, the player will definitely not win.

Don't get me wrong, goals are as important as systems are, but goals only give you the direction of where. But the gist is in designing and perfecting techniques and strategies that will lead you to the goal.

The purpose of setting a goal is to win a game, while the purpose of building systems is to continue playing/winning the game; in other words, creating strategies that work and strategies that ensure the continual achievement of your goal.?

Business leaders, therefore, must focus on building systems and refining techniques to win and commit to a cycle of continuous refinement and improvement.

Instead of only focusing on the goal this month, why not invest in your systems and refine your techniques? The win will almost be automatic.

They both achieve the set goals. Focussing on the goal is focussing on the outcome only. Focussing on systems achieves the goal (outcome) & moreso is an identity changer, & that there is The Game Changer.

They say execution eats strategy for lunch and doers achieve more than planners. But the process is critical because improving the process always improves the outcome; not always so with the goal. But both are superpowers that require constant nurture. This is a great stir Monica Chege

Previous years, my focus was on the goal and not the systems, but since we began this year 2022, I shifted the focus on the systems. Trust me, I can't fail to win!

Nice read! It is always a mix Monica Chege - one has to be clear about the goal, while regularly checking on progress towards the goal. Goals can sometimes be too large and daunting, so the small wins along the way keep you going. Just my two cents worth.
