Leadership Digest - August

As we dive into the back-to-school feeling of September, take a moment to bask in the sunshine of our August Leadership Digest newsletter with all the best bite-sized bits from the past month:

  • BOOKING AN ARGUMENT: “Have faith that you are both going to find a new way forward, or agree to disagree”... with a nod to Monty Python, Dave explored how to schedule a useful disagreement and why it can work to the benefit of both parties. We know that teams who voice and resolve disagreements build more trust and have great levels of accountability leading to better results, so this one is well worth a read.
  • STRATEGY THAT STICKS: Does your strategy lack meaning for different levels of the organisation? Building a strategy-on-a-page and defining the connections between its elements with day-to-day activity highlights how each activity is contributing to the organisation achieving its strategic goals. Plus, it means that when new activities are proposed, it becomes easy to evaluate if and how they would contribute to the strategy too. Check out Matt's post about why this is so important and read about how we develop these (including a handy template) in this previous article.
  • CHIMP ESCAPE ALERT: So much of our feedback from delegates on our leadership development journeys focuses on the powerful insights they have gained from learning about their inner chimp, and how to recognise and appreciate them. Dave mused on the possibility of giving people the opportunity to update on the status of their chimp at the start of a meeting, depending on whether it was calm or in danger of escaping that day... we’d love to know what you think!
  • GET ON BOARD WITH ONBOARDING: Want to address the 'extended time to value’ for new senior hires? Our senior executive onboarding focusses on navigating organisational realities and team dynamics with coaching at its heart - discover more about what this offers...

Need our help working with senior teams, or leading change? Looking to build on your leadership development plans this year? Contact Matt Eccles or Dr David Kearney for an informal chat about these or any of the topics above.
