My most favorite quote about strategy is coming from ice hockey star Wayne Gretzky, who said, “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been.”?

I tend to add where others are running, I don’t like to follow and copy others. Good strategy is unexpected and it is never quitting until you win. An insightful reframing of a competitive situation can create whole new patterns of advantages and weaknesses.?

Many people assume that a strategy is a big picture, overall direction, I experienced that good strategy urges towards goal and vision, it acknowledges challenges and provide approach to overcome them. It doesn’t ignore the power of choices and therefore not avoid, but rather pick FOCUS areas. It doesn’t accommodate a multitude of conflicting demands and interests. Good strategy requires leaders who are able to say NO to many different interest and actions..

Bigger challenge you face, more focus you need and coordinate efforts to achieve a powerful competitive punch or problem solving. Future oriented strategy doesn’t just draw on existing strengths it creates new missing capabilities or strengths through the coherence of its design. And indeed leader’s important responsibility is identifying the biggest challenges to forward progress - diagnose, provide guidance and keep coherent actions going on.?
