Leadership Diaries: Key ingredients of TRUST booster in new environment (2)
In my first article in the series - Leadership diaries - I wrote that TRUST is foundation, easy to say, difficult to live especially when you are new somewhere.
First few days passed, I was busy meeting different people, my closest peer team, leadership team, key stakeholders, people who appeared to be more often mentioned than the others either as solution or trouble makers. On top of that I am heavily meeting our clients as the most important source of information.
I have tried to listen, learn, understand, gain “360view” on different subjects, problems, processes and you can hardly avoid to bring your own perspective, experience or way of doing things.?This is coming earlier, when things are not making sense to me, or I heard that is not how we are do it here (and I made it before).?More open minded I am and I truly enjoy new learnings when you hear optimism, drive, willingness to do things obviously, I heard as well a lot how is it difficult to do couple of things because of process, collaboration, resources and there is lot of hope and dreams about and enablement’s is missing.
First impressions, interactions and first commitments?(more or less cautious), setting up expectations (on both sides) and also first evaluations of meeting or not meeting them are coming.?When you make commitment you build the hope, when you keep it, you build trust step by step.
I can clearer distinguish I CAN DO approach or IT IS NOT POSSIBLE - I GIVE UP / BLAME approach (VICTIM ROLE). I find people willing to say their opinion and discuss - make you think harder to find better solution ;) to spot those is at least for me as finding treasure :) I love people how make me think, they have courage, they have energy and there is some addition to the team, to myself. I believe that only insecure leaders surround themselves with yes people.??
After those day and reflections, I can clearer?name what are key ingredients of TRUST boosters for me and what I offer back:
LL (lesson learned): be aware of non-cautious commitments; clarify expectations on both sides.
2) CAN DO & I REALLY ACT APPROACH - here bias to action is very critical - I have to see this motion, that there is something happening during next??meeting, next day, there is no need to wait - rather 80% now than 100% never.?

LL: ACTION, step by step is better :) Collect first proof points.
3) BE VULNERABLE; BE AUTHENTIC, ADMIT MISTAKE or ASK FOR HELP - It is ok to say I don’t know; I tried and I learned and I will do differently.??
LL: People expected either super hero or biggest enemy :)??I need to bring them back to earth - I am only human being. People are rather afraid to say something negative about themselves.?
4) CARE - Feeling that someone is willing to help; or ask for help…. that someone asks really how are you???
LL: This small moments of “real care” spread among people very, very fast like electric impulse and they are helping to give boss more human face ;)??
5) RECIPROCITY - MUTUALITY -??I am seeking to get the answer what are the trust boosters for the colleagues, my team - trust??is a magic between at least 2 people or bigger team. I am getting more and more feedback that mentioned above is visible and giving them good feeling ;)?
LL: Seemingly there is much more advices for bosses that for people when looked?online however in relationship you need at least two.
