LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT’S ACID TEST

"Are your leaders more capable of addressing REAL-WORLD PROBLEMS as a result of the time and money that's been spent on their development?"

To pass this test, leadership programs must bring about significant and sustainable changes in leadership behavior. Transformation NOT Information is required.

Extensive research from Harvard, McKinsey, and Holzman Leadership demonstrates that most (if not almost all) leadership programs fail to change behavior.

At their best, leadership programs inform, inspire, deepen engagement, create self-awareness, and enable peer networking -- all worthy goals.

But, we have to do more to bring about BEHAVIOR CHANGE. And we have to do so in a way that's SCALABLE, AFFORDABLE, and RELEVANT.

The rare efforts that seem to work are extremely expensive, time-consuming, regimented, and reserved for only the top 1% of an organization's leaders.

In future articles, I'll share what it takes to bring about behavior change through leadership programs that are both scalable, affordable, and customizable.

This is so important. As speakers, trainers and coaches, we MUST move from information to inspiration. Behavior change does not happen just because there is understanding. It must be accompanied by motivation to take action. That is what my research has shown that there is a difference between a speaker and a motivational speaker. It is not in the title; it is in the effectiveness of the design and delivery.
