Leaders with vision do not follow a well-established path. They constantly seek patterns and learn from their environment to set a vision and serve the demands of time.
Leaders can differentiate between Information and Knowledge. They evolve by preparing for the future. However, cutting through the noise and gaining the appropriate knowledge needed to overcome the obstacles can be challenging. History offers a powerful example of a leader who had limited formal schooling but rose to the challenges of the time to self-educate and overcome obstacles: President Abraham Lincoln.
Lincoln's humble beginnings are well-known. He was born in a log cabin on the Kentucky frontier, grew up in the woods, and had less than a year of formal schooling. He did not have much formal education. Yet, through sheer determination and a craving for knowledge, he became one of the most influential leaders in American history.
His commitment to learning was a key factor in his success. He made extraordinary efforts to attain knowledge while working on a farm. He was a self-taught lawyer and a keen observer of human nature. He believed that knowledge was power and constantly sought to expand his horizons.
This relentless pursuit of knowledge and keenness to observe human nature are the habits that leaders in all fields would benefit from.
Leaders who are willing to invest in developing knowledge to serve the needs of the time are better equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern world.
Lincoln's example also reminds us that formal education is one of many paths to success. While a formal degree can open doors of opportunity, it does not guarantee the leadership ability to understand human behavior, which plays a crucial role in achieving collective success.
The most successful leaders are great observers who seek patterns, constantly learn from them, and adapt. They are curious, open-minded, and willing to experiment. They understand that the world is changing rapidly and are determined to stay ahead of the curve.
So, what can we learn from Abraham Lincoln's example?
Embrace lifelong learning:
Commit to continuous learning and development - read books, observe patterns, meet people, seek mentors, etc.

In a world longing for authenticity and connection, leaders who embody the spirit of Abraham Lincoln's message, "governments are of the people, by the people, for the people," are the need of the time.
Such leaders understand the pulse of their organizations and communities, champion their aspirations, and work tirelessly to create a better future for all.
They bridge divides, inspire trust, and nurture a sense of collective ownership.
Leaders rooted in empathy, a service mindset, and a genuine connection to the people will light the path toward prosperous organizations, communities, towns, cities, and countries.
