Leadership Communication - this week is about Written Prose and Non-Verbal Expression

1. WHAT SUBJECT I’M CURIOUS ABOUT

Welcome back. We are already at the end of week 3 in May 2023. Quite extraordinary how fast this year is passing.??Last week we reflected on two more topics for?this month of?"Leadership Communication."?They were "Artful Delegation?and?Soliciting Feedback." This means we have reached the halfway mark with four?topics of?the eight essential?elements that make up the foundation of?a leader's communication needs.

If you recall at the beginning of the month we?defined the first four?of those elements as

Listening?with Empathy and?Curious Questioning.

This week we continue with that process and review the next two on our list

Clear and concise written prose?|?Non-verbal bodily expressions

We are building these eight elements as they form the Virtual Mastermind program that we are running at the end of this month called "Communication as a Core Strength." During this Mastermind we are going?deeper with our review of these 8 elements.?

Written Prose:?Why is Written prose important in effective communication??It allows us to clearly and concisely convey our thoughts and ideas.?Well-written prose is organized, coherent, and free of errors, ensuring that our message is easily understood by the reader.

It also enables us to provide a permanent record of our communication, which can be referenced and shared with others.?Effectively written prose requires attention to detail, proper grammar, and a thorough understanding of the audience and the purpose of the communication.

Non-verbal expression:??Non-verbal expression is important in effective communication because it conveys our thoughts and feelings through gestures, facial expressions, and body language.?It can enhance or contradict our verbal message, providing additional context and meaning to our communication.

Non-verbal cues also help us to interpret and understand the emotions and intentions of others.?Being aware of our own non-verbal expressions and attuned to the non-verbal cues of others allows us to communicate more effectively and build stronger relationships based on mutual understanding and trust.

Writing concise attractive prose is a discipline and a skill

The ability to write concisely attractive prose is a discipline and skill that must be practiced by leaders.

In today’s fast-paced world, attention spans are shorter than ever before. As a result, the ability to write concisely and attractively is a critical skill that can make all the difference in getting your message across effectively. Whether you’re writing an email, a report, a blog post, or a book, the ability to write concisely and attractively is a discipline and skill that must be practiced.

Leaders can utilize non-verbal expression to show not tell

Leaders should utilize non-verbal’s such as facial expressions, gestures, and body language to show, not tell.

As humans, we communicate with more than just words. In fact, studies have shown that the majority of our communication is nonverbal, and this includes facial expressions, gestures, and body language. As a leader, it’s essential to understand the impact of nonverbal communication and how you can utilize it to show, not just tell your message.
