Effective coaching is more about questions rather than answers. Coaching is coming into conclusion with your employee rather than instructing. It's the old saying, if you give someone a fish, then he will live for one day, teaching them how to fish, he will live for life. Questions should be more of teaching them how to fish. Use coaching to explore questions such as, what do you think you could have done better? What are your strengths and how can you leverage on those? Asking questions rather than giving the feedback directly is a better way to draw your employee to the conversation versus being defensive.
