Leadership Clarity - thoughts and practices for leaders in "unprecedented" times

I'm not really sure I'm doing this right.
How are other leaders approaching this?
How can I communicate hope to my employees?

In these unprecedented days, I thought I'd take a few moments to list a few thoughts and practices I've been hearing from business leaders across the country.

I spend a lot of time helping business leaders establish cultural clarity in their organizations. As a part of the process we look at organizational clarity, leadership clarity and relational clarity. Leadership clarity establishes expectations and accountability for anyone leading people. We talk about the need for leaders to follow humbly, inspire strategically, manage individually and influence lovingly. All of us need leaders now, more than ever! Leadership is vital in times of confusion. People are longing for leadership.

I've taken the creative liberty to use C's - you know - for coronavirus / COVID-19.

  • Communicate - Every day. By video so people can see emotion. Be vulnerable and transparent. Remind people of their value. Think about starting the day with a video rally.
  • Counsel - Surround yourself with wise counsel to help you process the decisions you are making.
  • Competitors - No such thing right now. Reach out. Share ideas. Band together.
  • Creativity - Paralysis is not productive. Now is the time to engage people in innovative problem solving. Involve people in re-imagining.
  • Care - Check on people. Check on customers and clients. Check on competitors. People will rarely remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.
  • Community - Support those who may be suffering. Look for ways to bless others in your community. We need small businesses!
  • Calling - Don't forget why. Connect people to the purpose. Fear asks what if, calling and purpose declare even if.

Enough C's for now. I hope at least one thought helps you. If you need anything, reach out...I'd be honored to help you establish clarity!

Keep on Keepin' On,

Chris Allen
