Leadership is changing...
For years, Leadership was about competence, role-modeling and communication. In short, the ability to inspire. Is Leadership as important today?
The 2- Dimensional employee:
Many young, new employees are leaving soon after joining. Often referred to as “infant mortality”, this number is going up. This is only a footnote in the published literature on “Great Resignation” or “Great Reset”.
“I know all the people who have joined in the last two years only in two-dimension, over video calls. How do leaders build trust with employees you have not met in person?” asked the CEO of a technology company.
And yet Leadership has never been more relevant.
Leadership effectiveness impacts retention and innovation both:
Research done by Great Place to Work? India shows that employees in organizations in the top quartile in leadership effectiveness has more than 20 per cent higher intent to stay. (88 percent employees saying they want to stay for a long time, as opposed to only 71 per cent in the bottom quartile)
Again, in the top quartile companies three times more number of employees experience consistent opportunities for innovation.
What aspect of Leadership effectiveness is driving employee experience today?
Leadership effectiveness encompasses elements like management's ability to set vision and strategy, competence, accessibility and caring. The two aspects of Leadership that differentiated the best employers from the rest in the past were Credibility (Reliability) and Impartiality.
Not any more! They are important but not the biggest differentiators between the best and the rest.

Credibility and Impartiality has seen significant increases across organizations. They are no longer the areas with biggest gaps between the best workplaces and the rest!
Hybrid working has improved and not decreased positive employee perceptions
Overall, positive employee perceptions have increased by 6 per cent. This is not seen in “normal” years. What is more, areas like management’s reliability, equity, and impartiality – all difficult areas to score high on an employee survey- have gone up by more than 6 per cent.
So what differentiates Leadership at Great workplaces today?
Care, Support and Workplace Experience are now the key differentiators between the best workplaces and the rest.
Workplace experience is not about a defined "place" anymore, yet it has got better.
In an industry where bulk of the people are either working from home or are hybrid workers, why are more employees saying it is a fun place to work and people celebrate special events?
The answer lies in what these organizations are doing. To know these answers please wait for the annual research report of Great Place to Work? which will come out in June 2022.?

3 年A realistic insight into the new leadership ! Reducing average duration of CEOs over the years is a clear indicator that leadership is expected to perform a lot more in increasing uncertainties and abrupt changes . Apart from pandemics and technologies, product life cycles ( coming of EVs), miniaturisation (camera in cellphones), new kinds of business(space travel), supply chains (semi conductors) and stiff competition (china factor) and the like are issues which are required to be seen in perspective by CEOs well in advance with innovative and market launch solutions in size and scale. It demands a world view and innovation driven orientation with mobilisation of resources which CEOs ought to build up in organisations. This demands a new generation of CEOs.

3 年Very interesting insight - Great Workplace redefined. Listening skill and processes to capture it and act on it will be increasingly important part of leadership. One more day interesting, it’s the larger businesses with super financial results that are experiencing highest attrition. What are they missing? It cannot be demand exceeding supply of talent for the size and scale of India as it’s projected to have surplus with 24 million joining the workforce every year and will continue to past 2030.
