Leadership Blind Spots

A leader determines the success or fall of an organization. Most failures are caused by leadership blind spots. These are things that one may be unaware of. It’s why they are referred to as blind spots. Leadership blind spots not only cost an organization its success but they can also interfere with the realization of the company’s goal and its culture.

You may probably feel like this is something worth dismissing. But, think of it in this direction. A leader is a person from whom everyone looks upon. If a leader does have a blind spot, then that means blind spots are the primary cause of all shortfalls.

One might argue that these shortfalls are as a result of a leader’s traits or lack of self-discipline. However, behavioral blind spots are the cause. We all have different blind spots. And, the best way to get rid of them is by finding out what your blind spot is. It’s only then that you can share this knowledge with other leaders and help them unlock their blind spots.

Nonetheless, one of the main risks associated with blind spots is that a leader may find it challenging to identify and correct his/her weaknesses due to lack of communication, working alongside subordinate staff or being over-confident.

Being a leader requires you to embrace self-awareness. It is one of the essentials that help us connect well with others, find happiness and lead healthy relationships. You might think that leaders, due to their many years of experience, that they have mastered the art of self-awareness, but this could be quite far from the truth.

The main difference between weaknesses and blind spots is that the latter is unknown to the person affected. You might know your weaknesses and correct them by practice and effort. But, in the case of blind spots, one may be completely unaware of them.

Leaders, however, share a common trait. They all desire to improve themselves. Whether it’s a weakness or a blind spot, it may cause havoc to an individual especially if they are currently in a leadership position in an organization. Being a leader takes a lot of time and effort to achieve that status. It’s why you should fix all these blind spots as soon as you notice them.

A clarity assessment is the first and most important step that will help you identify your blind spots and how to overcome them. Unlocking blind spots creates room for success and achievements. This is something we have noticed with our clients.

Our role at Velocity Leadership is to carry out leadership coaching and help our clients unlock their blind spots.

We begin by offering a Clarity Assessment. Then we assist our clients in understanding both self-awareness and leadership blind spots. The results are usually positive and significantly affect the overall performance of the organization and their culture. This, in turn, converts to an increase in revenues.
