Is Leadership An Art Form?

Great leaders are visionaries.
They see the future and make it a reality.
I don't consider myself creative, but I have experienced seeing a vision come to life.
Great managers choose to see the potential in people.
That's why they work so hard to develop personal strengths.
It takes encouragement and challenging to witness growth in others.
That's where leadership goes beyond the classroom.
People are too dynamic to be controlled (micromanagers I'm talking to you).
Management by fear erodes trust, creates disconnection and kills morale.
But when leadership is an art form, people chase "what could be."
Helping people dream big inspires them to focus on the goal, not how hard it is to get there.
It's like a golfer visualizing their next shot versus organizing swing thoughts while playing (there's a time and place to be technical).
Leadership becomes an art form when it pushes people to go beyond their limits.
When managers raise the expectations and standards, people usually follow their lead.
Thinking of leadership as an art form may seem too idealistic.
But great leaders inspire, motivate and push us to go further than what we think is possible.
That's the kind of leader I want to follow.
That's the kind of leader I want to be.
I'm sure you do too.
