If leadership is the answer what is the question (Team Basicz)

As a business owner, we keep getting told what we need is more "leadership training" in our organization. Why ? For what ? What specific business challenge does leadership training address ? What specific business metric (worth measuring) does leadership training specifically improve ?

The primary challenge in business isn't great ideas or amazing visions or plans that go WOW ... its execution. Why ... why is it execution ? Because execution almost always involves people. And people are complex:

  • they have hopes and dreams and desires and opinions and feelings ... its a long list. -
  • And their motivation doesn't only / usually / primarily lie in the same area as what feeds a business (cash, profit, customers, opportunities, resources, etc).
  • Why ! Oh why ! ... and they want to know why all the time. Why are we doing this ? Why arent we doing that ? Why is John getting that task ? Why didnt anyone use my idea ? Why are we still here at 6 pm at night etc
  • and ... and they want to be heard when they have all these questions and they want to feel their opinions are valued

lets get back to "the question" - which is how can the organization I work in and the team I work in be better at execution ? One of the primary enablers of execution is increasing you and your team's leadership capability and capacity. That is often described as "leadership training" and incorporates elements like (1) improved communications (2) effective listening (3) celebrating diversity ... and success (4) a culture of feedback etc

If the answers are leadership training then the question is how can we execute more effectively and more consistently.

Ongoing Leader Training = Constantly improving execution = production of more of the resources the business needs (cash, customers, opportunities, etc)
