Leaders Read#6

?? Hello everyone,

Happy Sunday, I have to share one of my favorite leadership quotes:

James Autry said "Good management is largely a matter of love. Or if you're uncomfortable with that word, call it caring because proper management involves caring for people, not manipulating them."

?? Book Summary:

This week's book is "The Leadership Contract" by Vince Molinaro

You should read this book if you are looking for a book that will give you a great blueprint for being a leader. This is one of my favorite leadership books and one that will be valuable regardless of whether you are just starting as a team leader or you are a VP or CEO. The book will guide you on the right path.

One of my favorite take away from the book is this:

As a leader, you will need to take accountability to:

  • Align and engage. You need to understand your company's strategy and your role in executing it.
  • Take an enterprise-wide perspective. You must define success at the company level.
  • Build relationships. In our interconnected and interdependent world, relationships matter more than ever.
  • Master uncertainty. Today's increasingly complicated business environment creates a lot of challenging situations and risks.
  • Develop other leaders. You must leave a legacy of strong leadership within your organization that goes beyond yourself.
  • Model the values. You cannot be focused exclusively on your own personal agenda or team goals.

? Actionable advice:

The bulletin above is a bit of a wake-up call for me. As a leader, you must start the day by detaching from the emails and the craziness. You have to start with a clear picture of what you need to focus on. Do you understand the "What" and the "Why" of the strategy? Do you take ownership and build the relationships that will eventually make your team successful? And, are you looking out for your people? Are you ensuring they can be the best in the environment you control??

?? 5 things I’m thinking about (October 27, 2023)

1.Thinking about how to hit "Reset" after busy travel.

2.Any downside in giving up on all social platforms.

3.How am I going to lead differently after Autodesk LDP.

4.You have to own your calendar. Your time, your control.

5.The importance of story telling for executive presentations.

What resonated with me the most is the idea that, for managers, the most important job is not measurement but motivation. And you can't motivate numbers.
