Leaders Read#17

?? Hello everyone,

Connecting with you from Snowy Buffalo. We are under a travel ban because of snow and high wind. Sounds like a good opportunity to snuggle with a good book ??.

?? Book Summary:

This week's book is "Simple Rules" by Donald Sull and Kathleen M. Eisenhardt

You should read this book if you feel overwhelmed or struggle with managing complexity. The book has many great examples of simple rules driving easy decision-making.

One of my favorite take away from the book is this:

"Willpower is a reservoir, not a river, and when it runs out (as it often does at the end of a long day), rules can be effective tools for imposing limits on behavior."

? Actionable advice:

It is crucial that you know when you go from green to yellow in willpower and brainpower. After a long, draining day, it can be a bad decision to reply to that important email or open the freezer full of ice cream. Develop simple rules that work for you. If you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, close the laptop and go for a walk—or close that freezer and grab an apple. You don't want to do meaningful work or make healthy decisions in this state when the reservoir is low.
