What makes the Nurse.org ICON Awards truly special is that all the nurses and nursing students were nominated by the nursing community - peers, classmates, professors, followers, and loved ones! This level of recognition speaks volumes to the amazing work these individuals do day in, and out, for the nursing profession.
The nursing community voted for all 30 finalists! One nurse or nursing student will win each category. The six winners will then compete for the title of Nurse.org ICON of The Year!
Congresswoman Sends Letter to Biden Pushing Strategy To Tackle The Nursing Shortage
A few days before the New Year, Delaware Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester sent a letter to the Biden Administration to draw attention to the ongoing nursing shortage and figure out the next steps.?
Congresswoman Blunt Rochester, a Democratic member of the House Health Subcommittee, sent the letter specifically to the Office of Management and Budget specifically “to develop a coordinated national strategy to address the nursing workforce shortage impacting the health care sector.” The letter wants the Administration to outline a coordinated national strategy to address the shortage in the budget for the Fiscal Year 2024. JCAHO Eliminates 168 Standards To Help Relieve Healthcare Organizations
The Joint Commission recently announced it will be reducing standards for its accreditation. These changes are being made to meet standards similar to other entities. Starting January 1, 2023, 14%? of The Joint Commission's standards and quality measures were reduced, and accreditation fees were frozen to provide relief to healthcare organizations. The first portion of changes includes a total of 168 standards that will be eliminated, and another 14 standards will be revised across the accreditation programs.?
4 Nursing Students Sue Florida College For Alleged NCLEX Scheme
Four nursing students from HCI College in Florida filed a federal court lawsuit against the school on December 2nd, 2022.?
The students claim the school conducted a "malicious scheme" intended to block 95% of the students from graduating and taking the NCLEX. They also claim the school purposefully misrepresented its accreditation status and NCLEX pass rates.
New Bill Coud Allow Non-Certified Nursing Aides To Work in Nursing Homes For 2 Years
A bill that would permit non-certified nursing assistants to work in nursing homes has been reintroduced in the House of Representatives. This bill would allow individuals to work for longer than four months in a non-certified position.?
