Leaders Must Not Blink

September 11?cannot be the same again for the world and especially, Americans. Over the weekend I watched a documentary on the happenings within Whitehouse officials as the Plane attacks?happened.
I picked up some few things as I watched the documentary.
President Bush was having a normal day as he?was spending time with some children in a school. He?was engaging the children through book reading. While he was relaxed enjoying the company of the?children, his aid whispered into his ears?that a plane had crashed into a building. The President aid told him they were?not suspecting any?foul play so President Bush told the aid to keep him posted on the happenings and he went back reading with and for the children.
Not long, another update came in from his aid and this time, "Mr. President, America is under attack". This clearly disturbed the President yet he had to consume this bitter news without having to disrupt, disturb or confuse the children. He took the news, 'cleared' his face and briefly continued?reading to the children.
If the leader of America had panicked in-front of the children and the cameras that was going to be more damaging. In a split of a second, he knew what was expected of him. He tried?remaining focused?until the right time so he could leave the children and get to react to what had happened.
Leadership is for the brave because sometimes you must act to keep the energy, hope and aspirations of the people who you are leading in check even in the most?difficult times.

Leaders must be able to take split second decisions?because just a split second of a thought can define or delay progress for the entire team.?
Leaders must be the last in the chain to panic even in the face of serious attacks . You will lose your composure, strategic thinking prowess once?you press the panic button.
Instead of blinking the eye, activate the brain while you are receiving difficult news. What your people need is leadership not emotional reactions.?
After all, leaders don't have to blink an eye, they must always be focused.
