LEADERS ARE MORE THAN A PLACEHOLDER ON THE ORGANISATION CHART

LEADERS ARE MORE THAN A PLACEHOLDER ON THE ORGANISATION CHART

It is no secret that I believe leaders have a fundamental responsibility to lead.

No more placeholding a spot on the organisation chart. It is about navigating with intention through the unknowns that are part of the complex we operate in. It is about leading possibility.

This means leaders need to learn and grow, to experiment, to develop others and to stretch beyond what they thought possible. To continuously create capability, to question, to explore, to advocate, to innovate, to disrupt. Leadership today, requires a proactive approach. No more relying on yesterday’s performance. Our world moves too fast for yesterday’s success to guarantee a future.

Yet, your approach to leadership needs to be sustainable, no more just working harder until we ‘get there’. Let’s have a little more ease and grace in the mix, so being a leader is not a life of compromise, it is fun too.

When I work with leaders, typically I start at the top. I work with CEOs and their executive teams, uplifting executive leadership capability and practice, expanding change leadership, integrating a coaching leadership approach, and cascading throughout the organisation. I have a lot of strings to my bow, so use a variety of approaches.

It all starts with a conversation to find out how I can best help and support you and your people. From there we may focus on building the foundations for a high performing executive team. Perhaps it will be advising the CEO; Coaching members of the executive team and senior leadership to have greater impact and influence; I might share key leadership insights and strategies at your conference or leadership retreat; Or deploy one of my long term leadership development programs across your teams; Or it may be as simple as sharing one of my bestselling books on leadership to your people.

My objective is to raise the bar for leadership. To elevate the global practice of leadership. To help leaders develop competence, confidence, and credibility.?

Specifically, I?am focused on futureproofing CEOs. Their leadership, their people, and their organisations.

Helping them:

? Build the practical foundations for effective leadership.

? Get out of the trenches, to lead strategically & with influence.

? Transition quickly and effectively to leading larger, more complex portfolios.

? Effectively lead change and transformation.

? Create a leadership coaching capability.

? Create the space to lead, for greater influence and impact.

? Create HP executive teams, who enable rather than impede progress.

? Develop horizon thinking.?

I work with people who are or want to do something big. They want to make a difference in the world. They are often leading some kind of transformation, something new or changing. And they are heart based leaders. They know that to lead, it is about people. Not just the task, the deliverable, the outcome. They understand the need to integrate the two – people and task.

The people I work with are already high performers. They are doing a great job, though it may be taking more effort than they would like. To plateau is not in their nature, and it is also not the way to create the future. These individuals recognise that plateauing is a recipe to lose currency, to lose relevance, and to lose control over their destiny, their future. Not only for themselves, but also for their people, their teams, and their organisation.

Our world needs big leadership. We need more leaders who choose to be proactive, to elevate their own practice of leadership, and to develop the leadership around them, if we are to create a future we want to be part of.

I’d love to know your thoughts.?

I love the comment in the article that says to be a leader doesn’t have to be a life of compromise! I feel as if I personally sacrifice and compromise some of the “what I would like to do” for “what more needs to be done to encourage opportunity! Thanks for sharing.
