Leaders Lift.

Leadership is a word full of meanings.

It's because it's so nuanced. Each environment, space, place and situation may or may not require a specific kind of leadership. I like to consider leadership at both micro and macro levels and when what type of leadership is needed.

There are a few kinds of leadership that come to mind...

• Leadership that keeps you safe while on a treacherous mission - think a war zone or trying to get out of a financial crisis.
• Leadership that nurtures another's own development by guiding, holding space and encouraging curiosity, exploration and growth - think a parent, coach, teacher or guide.
• Leadership that shows you the way on a new professional or personal path - think a mentor for business or relationships.
• Leadership that casts a vision of new possibilities so others can connect and see a better picture of the future - think of any movement where lots of change occurred within large groups of people.
• Leadership that holds the faith and belief for the new possibility and organizes the people and ideas to bring it to fruition - think any new venture, business or offering.

We do need leaders today. Not in the simplistic way I've often been taught from various leadership trainings and personal development workshops.

The leaders we need today are not preaching from a pulpit or stage simply telling everyone the way it should be done...

I believe the leaders we need today are patient, focused, attentive, in tune. They are somehow, someway, able to embody all of the qualities above.

They are living leadership.

These leaders work on themselves first and always. They work on leading themselves. They work on taking the right actions, being proud of the work they do and making sure they're doing so out in the open, for others to see.

And then? These people, well, they genuinely care about the lives of others. Others well-being, dreams, goals, hopes, aspirations.

So, as an outgrowth of their own work and love, the leaders needed today will automatically bring people along with them to a better, brighter, stronger future. Not everyone, but the right ones who need your influence, example and dedication.
