Leaders, how are we doing?

During these very chaotic times, it is very natural for us to look to our leaders for guidance, stability, and direction. So as leaders, how are we doing? Are we providing that guidance, stability, and direction for others? Or have we allowed our preconceived notions, unconscious biases, and unwillingness to be open minded impact our dialog and behavior? Either way, I just wanted to remind each of us that our role as leaders should not be self-serving or selfish, but it should be selfless and focused on the greater good of all. As that reminder, I have shared in my most recent book, The Risk to be Great, the characteristics of a great leader. This summary gives you a snapshot, but I really encourage you to pick up the book, perform a self-check, and deep dive into the areas that may need strengthening.
In a recent Linked In article, I indicated that we are all have a responsibility regarding racism. Truthfully, we also have responsibility with regards to covid-19 as well. Knowing that we have responsibility, we should also know that we have the power to do something about the injustices and the health crisis that we are currently facing.
So, check yourself as a leader… where is your heart, your passion, your goals? Do they only benefit you and your immediate circle of family and friends? Or does the community, company, city that you live in also benefit? Are you truly a leader or are you a person holding a position of power? Those are two vastly different things.
