Happy Wednesday!
Welcome to the very first issue of my LinkedIn Newsletter: Leadership, Made Inclusive. Every other week, I’ll share my thoughts on the intersection of leadership and people strategies—breaking down what works (IMHO), what doesn't, and how we can lead better.
Why am I starting this newsletter?
To finally get the thoughts swirling around in my head on paper (or screen!). I’ve spent years observing how companies struggle with developing leaders—why they need to and how they should do it. I want to unpack these challenges and explore how leadership is evolving.
Let’s be real: my career hasn’t been a straight path. I’ve had plenty of twists and turns. I didn't plan to work in human resources. I graduated into one recession and started my graphic design career, which led me to launch my own firm, Maurgood (yes, “more good”), focused on Corporate Social Responsibility. That was my first step into entrepreneurship.
Along the way, I met my wonderful husband, and by 2009, another recession brought our family from Atlanta to New York City. In the Big Apple, I transitioned into digital marketing—leveraging my creative and management experience to work with clients across industries. Now, for the past five years, I’ve been focusing on building relationships with potential clients at Saterman Connect.
While my HR consulting journey is relatively recent, my love for people and curiosity about leadership has always been central to who I am.
What sets this newsletter apart?
There’s so much leadership advice out there, but it’s not always actionable. I’m here to change that. As a Gen-X leader, I’ve often felt caught between two louder generations, but I’ve carved out my own path. I’ve embraced technology, and I’ve learned fundamental leadership skills from sharp Boomer bosses who were experts at what some call “soft skills,” but what I see as critical skills—negotiating, critical thinking, decision-making, and communication.

(FYI, I was thinking of calling this newsletter "New Edition" to honor my Gen-X roots)
What can you expect from this newsletter?
I’m committed to:
My goal is to keep each issue strategic and succinct, while mixing in a bit of storytelling along the way. I’ll unpack key leadership topics and give you my take on how to approach them in real, meaningful ways.
What’s next?
In future issues, I’ll explore what’s working, what isn’t, and what we, as leaders, can do to build more inclusive, effective teams. Leadership isn’t easy, but it’s worth investing in—and I’ll be here to guide the way.
Join me as we dive into these conversations, tackle the tough topics, and work together to make meaningful change.
With much love and gratitude, Michael
