Leaders Guide to AI
What makes an entrepreneur successful?“
..entrepreneurs generally are optimistic. Skeptics never did the impossible. Entrepreneurs have very rapid learning rates…and they rapidly iterate and adjust what they’re doing. Really good entrepreneurs are very obstinate about their vision and very flexible about their tactics”
Thoughts on taking risks as a company?
“If you take half a percent of your market cap and put it on ten projects, everytime you lose, you lose half a percent of your market cap; but if you win, you double your market cap. This applies to a five-person or five thousand person company
”On the Future of AI?“
..We can cost-effectively embrace every coal and natural gas plant in this country well before 2050. We can replace the majority of cars in most cities with a different notion of public transit. Source of food, plant proteins will change radically over the next 25 years. Music and entertainment will be re-invented. Climate is of course a big issue- more work needs to done there”
These are some of the highlights I made after reading an exciting interview excerpt between Raj Verma, CEO of one of the top data companies in the valley and serial entrepreneur and investor Vinod Khosla, Founder of Sun microsystems and early investor in OpenAI.
This is one of my favorite parts of my latest AI book read.Raj Verma’s latest book “Time is Now” delves deep into the philosophical implications of AI through personal anecdotes, life in silicon valley as an entrepreneur and how Real Time AI-based Decisions are made.
Another super interesting and insightful thing I learnt from the book was how Raj structures a decision-making process. Every decision, whether it is made by Humans or AI, can be broken down into three components!

? Information: This is all the data fed into an AI model, for humans it is the vast collection of our memories and experiences that form the foundational layer of any decision-making process
??Context: This is conducting a reasoned analysis based on information. It could be opinions or emotions in the case of humans and for a AI model, it is analyzing the information based on a set of logical rules
??Choice: This is the action of making a decision based on information and context. As both Humans and AI models we have make a choice based on the options that are identified from information and context!
I really enjoyed this simple breakdown and I found myself applying this methodology to many aspects of my life and decisions I take at my workplace. Raj delves into moments of his life and the impact of this methodology which he has rightly coined as the? “Power of Now”. He also shares how organizations and decision-makers should be applying this methodology when designing responsible cutting-edge AI technologies and build systems to improve each component in this decision-making process.
I highly recommend checking it out especially if you are new to leveraging AI in your life/business decisions and are curious about the future of entrepreneurship and advancements in this space.
