Managing Director at Gillies and Mackay Ltd >< I'm not interested in your shitey sales pitch DM - slide away fae me sweetheart. ><
On Saturday 5th December, once all the pomp and ceremony is done, we'll be sending the profits of our Ex Display Sale to Dundee Bairns. Dundee Bairns will use this money to facilitate a Tea Club set up to support the families of RowanTree Primary.
Profits + a little bit of love, will total £2,500.00. This money will fund a 5 month project that provides a hot evening meal every week for all the families at RowanTree Primary who need it.
Back in October our MD Cara, had been reading a book called 'Lowborn' by Kerry Hudson. In Kerry's book she revisits the places she was raised as a kid in poverty and tells the story of the heartbreaking deprivation she and many like her faced. A reality far closer to Cara's upbringing than that of our Westminster Government who announced (in October) they would not extend free School meals throughout the Christmas period.
Cara: -
"For me, it's the kids. They are our future and we are responsible for their care. At G&M we're a family run business, there's 16 families here and everything we do is for the legacy of our founders and the future of our next generation. As a profitable business, we know we have an extended responsibility to our community. Traditionally we have always been a seasonal business and the sale has always been a means to fund our own hardship over the winter months. This year however, we have more than enough - and that's thanks to all of our customers across Scotland. Forever grateful to be in a position of prosperity, it seems the only right thing to do, whilst others are struggling, is to give."
Genna Millar from Dundee Bairns was kind enough to take the time and explain what a project like this can do. 92% of the children who attend RowanTree Primary are in the 1% of Scotlands multiple deprivation category. This means that the Head Master of RowanTree has one priority; to ensure that each child is safe, fed and warm - then and only then will he consider their attainment.
Genna:-
“We are delighted that Gillies and Mackay have chosen to partner with us to get this really important initiative up and running. The coronavirus pandemic has had such a devastating effect for so many families and it’s great to be able to link up with a forward-thinking business to provide this extra support at such a crucial time. We’re looking forward to getting the tea club underway and can’t thank Cara and her team for their support at this difficult time.”
By funding the Tea Club we want to say thank you to RowanTree Faculty for looking after our kids and to Dundee Bairns for continuing to make the lives of those who need it most a little less hard.

"Just as instructed by Kerry's book, I hope that what people take from this is action. I want individuals and businesses alike to lead and set an example for the kids of our future"
Thank you so much for all the support and kindness of our customers and G&M Family.
