Our world and the people in it are complex and changing which means our jobs as leaders are complicated. With that said, our responses can be straightforward.
- While leading organizational change with the complexity of different personalities, career goals, and business initiatives, I find simplicity in being a mediator. Getting to know each person, each team, and figuring out the alignment puzzle.
- During crisis situations with the hallmarks of the unknown and turmoil, I find simplicity in being a chef. There is a recipe to returning to normal and my role is to steadily walk us through the recipe - both the science and the art.
- As I lead my team through executing ambitious goals and overcoming daily fire drills, I find simplicity in being a coach. The focus is on developing each member's skills and instilling in them the value of comradery.
I'm curious. What's your opinion?
- What types of leaders have inspired you? Why?
- If you're an aspiring leader, what is the one leadership trait you are focusing on developing or improving? Why?
- As an established leader, what leadership style has mattered most to you and why?

1 年There is something to be recognized about results driven leaders, who aspire for more and better not for themselves, but for the organization. And such results cannot be accomplished without clear objectives and goals, which require right talent in the right place, coupled with a layer (or many) of serviability and humblesness. I see value in a balance between results driven attitude and empowerment and professional growth of the led teams! Thanks for summarizing such great pointers for us, Lee!

1 年All great approaches and tips Lee. I think that the best leaders are those who understand that leadership is about serving others. Another trait of leaders that is important in addition to connecting with others as you mentioned by getting to know your team, is the ability to connect others to others. We, the leaders, don't always have the answer but because of our connections we may know who has the answer and can bring them to the table; and that goes a long way when helping other navigate complexity.
