Leaders - Born or Made........

I saw an interesting question in a post yesterday. Are leaders born or made? To me that is an easy question. I see no reason as to why this would be a decade long debate. The answer to me is its BOTH.

There are people who are born and meant to be a true leader and it presents early on in their life. It is in their DNA, it is undeniable. The leader in them continues to grow as they learn and grow. You see glimpses of it in their childhood. Then you see these people in their teens and early into their twenty's. Maybe in high school or college and you just know, this person is going to do great things.

Other leaders, Made Leaders, may not have been born a natural leader but, are smart and cagy and watch who they feel to be great leaders. They take from the true leaders and the not so hot leaders and build their own type of leadership. They learn to emulate the good and they also learn from the not so good and make sure they do not turn into that type of "Leader". Always learning what it takes and making sure this is the principle that is ever present to guide, and grow their team.

Then there are the "I didn't even know I could lead" people, who out of necessity and circumstance band together with their team - rally and get the job done. This is the leader that is truly both. A natural leader, who stayed in the background, but in the end, when it counted, were BORN AND MADE into a great leader, WHEN THEY NEEDED TO BE.
