As a leader, have you ever make mistakes?
Do you own your mistakes? Or, do you let others take the blame?
Leaders are also humans, so it is normal for them to make mistakes as well. Everybody in the workplace makes mistakes, however, it is not about the mistake, but it is about how to respond after making the mistake that matters.
Actually, many leaders in the workforce do not want to admit their mistakes. They believe that by admitting it, they will lose their credibility, cannot maintain the image that they want to perceive, or it can also challenge their ego as well.?
So, what is the right response when a leader makes a mistake? The most important response is admitting that they have made a mistake.?
Here are some steps a leader can take when they make a mistake:
By owning mistakes and handling it with transparency, a leader can turn a potentially negative situation into an opportunity for growth and a stronger team connection.
When admitting a mistake avoid justification. Do not provide excuses or explanations to justify and defend that the mistake is acceptable, but instead, own the mistake. Be brave and be genuine, and then learn from it. Treat it as a lesson for the future.?
Do you have the courage to admit your mistakes?
