Economies and the world of work are changing rapidly.? One thing is for sure, change has come to stay, and the change is rapid.? The rise of innovative technologies such as AI, AR and VR together with geo- and sociopolitical challenges will disrupt the way we do business, the way we work and the kind of leaders that will emerge.?
I think the quote from Michael Hopf's novel “Those Who Remain” is even more relevant today: ?“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times”.? Whether it's a family, military or country, leadership is responsible for the direction of the organization and actions of the group.
We can theorize about leadership when times are easy.? But it is during hard times when the true leaders emerge.? Why is that might you ask?? It is because true leaders care less about self preservation and more about corporate preservation.? True leadership is a heart issue.? True leaders care.? True leaders are selfless, couragious, resilient, agile and bold.? True leaders have a high EQ; ?they feel the fear but do the right thing anyway.
It is in this context that I believe it is even more necessary for companies to ensure that they have the right leaders in the right positions doing the right things, throughout the entire organization, but more so on strategic level (BOD’s, CEO and executive team).? It will be these companies that had the insight to ensure the right leadership, that will have the foresight and clarity of vision to rightly discern threats and opportunities in the market, as well as plan and prepare accordingly, that will survive and even thrive.
