Leadership Self Appraisal
By Mark Preston
One of the best qualities of Leadership involves being humble enough to stop long enough and ask yourself how you can improve. This desire to always improve is found in the best leaders. One great analogy that I always reflect on came from a Leadership Seminar at West Point given by General Hurtling. “If you are pointing at someone, you have three fingers pointing back at yourself!” “The first finger pointing back at you stands for Tools.” Did I give the person that I am pointing at the right tools to do their job? The second finger stands for Environment. Did I place the person in the right environment to do their job? The third finger stands for Communication. Did I communicate effectively for the person to do their job? Most of the time, we can find improvement within ourselves in which to help the people that we lead.?
?The following questions will help you look back at yourself and find areas to improve. Take some time and answer them truthfully.
?Hard Leadership Questions for Self-Appraisal

2.) Are you always aware of all aspects of management when trying to accomplish a goal?
3.) Do you neglect to make an effort to incorporate the ideas of top management into your work????????????

2 年Hey Mark, good list of questions. I agree that humbleness is key, however, if the organization still rewards control, use of fear, firefighting, data manipulation, empire building, etc. then it will be hard to be humble and still get recognized for promotion.
