A leader may be positive or negative; a manager, good or bad. Leader basically inspires, manager aspires. Leader is devoted to a mission and has a vision, manager is devoted to targets and has deadlines. Leaders and followers share stronger emotional bonds, manager and team dwindles between personal and professional realms.it's easier to be a manager, but takes a lot to be a leader like principles/strong values based character, ethics, personal sacrifices and above all courageous initiatives.Executive Leader, a term commonly used for leaders in corporate parlance, is a new name for managers or executives who are apt in the acts of following. Following the leaders who envision the corporate strategies, and devising & executing unit/segment/department/function-wise short, mid and long term plans which are exactly in alignment with corporate strategies define the KPIs of Executive Leader (Manager). There is no concrete boundary which discourages a leader acting more like a manager and vice versa. To me, it seems dealing with non-living stuff like systems, networks, machines, materials is more of a managerial kind job. While, as soon as you deal people; you are bound to display characteristic of a leader which in turn helps you emerge as an effective manager. In crisis or emergency situations, formal leadership is often replaced or snatched by situational leaders. These leaders might suddenly appear out of nowhere. One might have noticed, when there is huge traffic jam on a road like Medical road or Dodhour; a couple of guys jump in and guide vehicles to stay or pass on while the traffic police stays sidelined.Leader provides you with road map and destination; manager helps you choose the best route to follow. And in fact, in this journey, all travel alongwith; the leader, the manager, and the follower. At times, depending upon situational demands, the roles are reversed, the follower becomes leader, the leader the manager, the manager the leader, the leader the follower.Perhaps this prevails everywhere; family, friends, social, professional or corporate circles. Everyone has within a leader, manager and a follower be it a tirriwallah (riksha puller), a street beggar, or a business tycoon. Thus, the life goes on! let's enjoy our leading, managing and following.
